Churchill Funeral & Cremation Service - Elsie Faye Rogers
A memorial service for Elsie Faye Rogers, 74, was Wednesday, July 16, 2008
at the Collinsville Freewill Baptist Church. Pastor Herman Wood
officiated. Services were entrusted to Churchill Funeral & Cremation
Service of Owasso, OK.
Elsie was born February 22, 1934 in Colcord, OK to William Orval Chamberlain
and Leta (Barnwell) Chamberlain. She died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at St.
John's Medical Center in Tulsa, OK following a sudden illness.
She married Richard C. Rogers on February 13, 1954 in Tulsa, OK. Elsie
worked as an interior decorator for 53 years, working most of that time for
Tulsa Shade and Drapery and Harley's Fabrics before moving her work to her
home in Collinsville, OK in 1995.
Elsie was a member of the Cherokee Nation, as well as a member of Eta Mu
Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority for more than 20 years. Her
love and dedication to the betterment of Owasso, OK was unequaled. She
was a tireless worker on every project she was involved in. Her face
was well-known at all of the Owasso, OK schools as she presented awards for
the "Outstanding Young Ladies" as well as selected the Girl's State
recipient. She was also a member of P.E.O., which focuses on women's
education, serving in every office except President.
Elsie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Collinsville Freewill
Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer and nursery teacher.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Herkender and husband, Clarence,
of Collinsville, OK and Debra Smith and husband, Kevin, of Ft. Worth, TX;
two sisters, Wilma Reese and husband, Leroy, and Lola Mae Shackelford and
husband, Bill, all of Fayetteville, AR; one brother, Leo Chamberlain and
wife, Ida, of Colcord, OK; and four grandchildren, B.J. Smith and wife;
Morgan, of Ft. Worth, TX; Amanda West and husband, Christopher, of Owasso,
OK; Tristan Polak and husband, Brian, of Tahlequah, OK; and Devin Smith and
wife, Bekah, of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Richard Rogers, on May 21, 1991.
