Jackie Marouk Chose a Unique Profession...
Let's face it, being a funeral director is not the life-long dream of most
of us. It would not doubt be an odd answer to the question of, "What
do you want to be when you grow up?" But looking back at her life,
Jackie Marouk can now see that the events and experiences of her life have
shaped and equipped her to help people dealing with the death of a loved
one.
You might sat that "life" has taught her to deal with "death." As a
psychiatric nurse, she spent years dealing with families in crisis; but the
personal tragedy of losing her youngest son at the age of 13 taught her
first-hand about the pain of death. It was an experience that would
impact her life forever.
Even in this overwhelming time of grief, she noticed and appreciated the
positive manner the funeral director helped her deal with her loss.
"They handled everything for me, constantly reassuring me along the way that
everything would be done just the way I had asked for it. The
experience was as positive as it could be under the circumstances.
They truly helped me," Jackie recalled.
Now, 20 years after the loss of her son, Jackie stands ready to give the
same support her funeral director provided to her. Called to this
profession, she has built the right facility and the right staff to help her
fulfill her calling. Teaming up with Bob Epperson, a highly respected
and experienced funeral director, she is now ready to apply the things that
life has taught her.
"Being a great funeral director has to be a calling," Jackie said.
"Like in nursing, they can teach you the "science" of how to do everything,
but the "art" has to come naturally from within you."
The two have determined to work hard at helping people, not selling them;
giving reasonable prices and helping people to stay within a budget, and to
compassionately help every family deal with their grief, even to the point
of checking on them even after the funeral is over.

The story tells of a man who just could not stand the thought of seeing his
mother in a casket. The funeral director compassionately came up with
a solution...
He got permission to have the woman's bed moved to the funeral home.
That way, the woman could be seen in her own bed during the viewing and the
funeral. "Now that is the kind of compassion and service we have
dedicated ourselves to provide," Jackie says. "We will do whatever the
family needs."
"This is truly a unique business. We would hope people don't need our
services, but when they do, we want to be prepared to help in a special way.
It's a sacred responsibility to be entrusted with someone's loved one...a
responsibility we don't take lightly."
